Lordina Foundation 2023 End of Year Donation

It’s that time of the year again when we exchange gifts and spread joy.
I’m happy I had the privilege of sharing the holiday spirit with children from several homes, including Osu, Fafraha, Anfaani, Tamale, Frank May, and Bethel Star Children’s homes.
As part of the objectives of the Lordina Foundation, we’re committed to positively impacting children’s lives and bringing extra joy and warmth to their Christmas season.
I hope the gifts we gave will bring smiles and create lasting memories for them.
As we celebrate this festive season, let’s remember the true meaning of Christmas – a time of love, compassion, and giving.
Let’s continue spreading kindness and support to those in need and always remember the importance of coming together to lift each other as a community.
To the children of Ghana, I hope your hearts are filled with the magic of Christmas. You are loved and cherished.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with hope, happiness, and endless possibilities.

Founder of Lordina Foundation gifts Ampoma and Bodom water systems on her 60th birthday

Former First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has provided the Ampoma and Bodom communities in the Bono East Region with water supply systems to celebrate her 60th birthday.

Mrs. Mahama, born on 6th March 1963, decided to solve the water situation in Ampoma and Bodom, her maternal and paternal hometowns, by constructing mechanised borehole systems to serve the two separate communities.

Inaugurating the Community Water Supply Systems ahead of her 60th birthday, Mrs. Mahama emphasised the importance of community ownership and why the people and their chiefs must work together to ensure an effective management of the water systems.

The President of the Lordina Foundation noted the importance of having quality water in communities, adding that good drinking water helps promote better hygiene, improved public health and a clean environment.

The Ampoma Community Water Supply System has a total of three water stations and six storage tanks with a capacity of 30,000 litres. Each of the stations has eight (8) pipes to serve the community. The Bodom Community Water Supply System, on the other hand, has one water station made up of ten (10) pipe stands and a storage capacity of 30,000 litres.

Mrs. Mahama, after the inauguration, handed over the facilities to a seven-member management committee for each of the communities, who will be responsible for its efficient, effective, and accountable management.

This is just one of the many philanthropic gestures by Mrs. Mahama and her husband across the country, over the years. In 2022, to commemorate their 30th anniversary of marriage, Mrs. Lordina Mahama and her husband constructed and furnished a 45-bed Maternity and Children’s Ward for the Bole District Hospital. The 865 square metre facility has a standby generator, a Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with three incubators, five phototherapy units and baby weighing scales among others.

Lordina Foundation takes breast and cervical cancer screening to the church

Lordina Foundation takes breast and cervical cancer screening to the church

Saturday November 20, 2021

The Lordina Foundation on Saturday organized a breast and cervical cancer screening exercise for female members of the Ringway Estates Assemblies of God Church in Accra.

The beneficiaries were given a health talk by Dr. Julia Padiki Derban of Total House Clinic who facilitated the screening exercise. They were also examined for breast cancer and underwent a pap smear test.

The pap test is the procedure used to test for cervical cancer in women and involves the collection of cells from the cervix. According to Dr. Julia Padiki Derban, an early detection of both breast and cervical cancer guarantees a greater chance of cure.

The HPV Information Centre said in an October 2021 report that about 4.3% of Ghanaian women are estimated to habour cervical HPV- 16/18 infections at a given time. “55.6% of invasive cervical cancers are attributed to HPVs 16 or 18”, the report added.

Former First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama who is the President of the Lordina Foundation has been undertaking screening exercises for breast and cervical cancer, HIV education and prevention activities from her days as First Lady.

According to Priscilla Santuo-Ocrah, Board Secretary of the Lordina Foundation, the organization will ensure that anyone who is identified with any symptons will be supported to undergo treatment.

She noted that cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women in Ghana, after breast cancer, and is prevalent in women between the ages of 15 and 44 years.

Various studies have also shown that breast cancer is becoming common, and at very advanced stages, in younger women in Ghana than previously thought. According to a study into the risk factors and screening practices among future professionals in Ghana, published in June 2021, the reason for the detection of the cancer in its advanced stage in younger women is because of a “delay in seeking healthcare as a result of a lack of awareness of the disease at its early stage”.

The wife of the resident pastor in charge of the Ringway Estate Assemblies of God Church, Mrs. Grace Adjei, thanked Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama and her Foundation for the screening exercise and the health talk.
