The women in the Gambaga "witches" camp have lauded Mrs Lordina Mahama and her Lordina Foundation for being a reliable support system for the camp over the years

In addition to regular donations, Mrs Mahama has also in the past facilitated the presentation of a vehicle and started work on an accommodation and skills training facility for the camp.

On Friday, the Foundation visited the camp and presented food and essential items to beneficiaries of the Go Home Project. After the presentation, Board Secretary Priscilla Santuo-Ocrah extended warm greetings from the Foundation’s president.

“Mama Lordina loves you all and is always ready to support you to ensure your comfort,” she added.

Madam Santuo-Ocrah emphasized that the Foundation’s motto, “The more we share, the more we have,” is its guiding principle. The foundation believes in sharing its resources to bring smiles to as many faces as possible.

“I know these items will not solve all your problems, but I believe they will make a significant difference,” she noted.

The items presented included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, canned tomatoes, malt drink, fruit juice, milo beverage, bottled water, Tom Brown, Gari mix, spaghetti, tissue paper, and detergents. Each beneficiary also received a piece of cloth and a bar of chocolate.

The coordinator for the Go Home Project, Reverend Gladys Lariba, expressed excitement and thanked Mrs Mahama for the donation and support. She acknowledged that Mrs Mahama and her foundation have played a critical role in running the camp over the years, with regular donations occurring two or three times a year.

She mentioned that an accommodation facility started before the last National Democratic Congress left office had been abandoned. She expressed hope that work would resume soon to provide the women with decent and dignified housing while they waited to reintegrate with their families.

Reverend Lariba also thanked the Foundation for providing a vehicle that assisted them with their sensitization programs and transporting beneficiaries to access healthcare and other needs.

She also called for the implementation of the Anti-Witchcraft Bill, which was passed a few years ago, to sensitize Ghanaians and prevent further instances of elderly women being expelled from their homes due to witchcraft accusations.

The “Go Home Project” is an initiative of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana aimed at correcting the stigmatization of elderly women in the “Gambaga witches camp.”

Lordina Foundation brings Christmas joy to orphans

Lordina Foundation brings Christmas Joy to orphans

Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama and her Lordina Foundation on Tuesday donated various items to the Osu Children’s Home and Christ Faith Foster Home in Adenta, continuing her long-standing tradition of sharing with the less privileged in society over the last two decades and more.

The donated items included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, canned tomatoes, beverages such as Milo and Nido, spaghetti, boxes of Tom Brown, sugar, biscuits, drinks, toffees, tissue paper, detergents, and sanitary pads, among other things others.

Mrs Mahama, wife of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, has contributed to the development of deprived children and women in rural and urban areas by promoting quality health care, education, and general well-being.

The Lordina Foundation has adopted orphanages across the country, which it supports with food and non-food items. It also appreciates the staff of the homes.

Pastor Kwame Boateng Sarpong, a member of the Foundation’s board, presented the items on behalf of Mrs Mahama and conveyed her goodwill message to the children and staff of the two homes.

The Home Manager of Osu Children’s Home, Mr Reindorf Dartey, expressed their excitement for the pre-Christmas donation, noting that the facility has consistently received support from the Lordina Foundation and the Mahama family.

“In my six years here, we have always looked forward to hearing from our mother, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, during the festive season, so we are very happy you have come here today,” he stated.

Mr Adu Amoako, Manager of Christ Faith Foster Home, also thanked Mrs Mahama for consistently including them in her Christmas plans. He took the opportunity to extend seasonal greetings to the President-Elect, Mrs Mahama, and the family, praying that the new year brings them joy and many smiles, just as they have brought to the motherless and fatherless in their facility.

At least twice a year, including December, the Lordina Foundation presents donations to selected orphanages across the country to celebrate the Christmas season with the less fortunate in society.

John Mahama and wife renovate Hohoe Adabraka Health Centre

John Mahama and wife renovate Hohoe Adabraka Health Center

Former First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a renovated and expanded health centre at Hohoe Adabraka in the Volta Region.

The dilapidated structure that once housed the facility has been transformed into a modern health centre, providing additional service space for patients and healthcare workers.

The renovated facility now features two separate wards, fully equipped with modern hospital beds and accessories, two consulting rooms with examination beds, a laboratory, a storeroom, and a spacious waiting area, complete with a reception desk and visitor chairs.

“My heart is full of gratitude and joy because what was once a shabby, run-down structure has been transformed into a modern facility equipped to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to this community,” Mrs Mahama stated at a ceremony in Hohoe on Tuesday.

She explained that although the NDC parliamentary candidate for Hohoe had requested medical equipment, she and her husband, President John Dramani Mahama, reviewed images of the centre and decided to renovate and expand it for the benefit of the people.

“I am sure you are all surprised at how we have transformed that death trap of a building into what we see here today,” she remarked.

Highlighting the importance of healthcare, Mrs Mahama referenced key innovative health initiatives outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto, including Free Primary Health Care, which aims to alleviate the financial burden that often deters families from seeking medical attention.

She also celebrated her husband’s generosity in financing the project through the Lordina Foundation as his 66th birthday gift to the people of Hohoe.

“This health centre will not only serve as a place of healing but also symbolise hope, empowerment, and John Mahama’s love for the people of Hohoe and Ghana,” she added.

Mrs Mahama conveyed a message of hope and prosperity for all Ghanaians under a John Mahama administration, urging the people to vote for him and all NDC parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections.

A representative of the Lordina Foundation, Pastor Kwame Boateng-Sarpong, praised Mr. and Mrs. Mahama for their philanthropy and visionary leadership. He also acknowledged the foundation’s efforts to improve the lives of women and children, particularly in underserved communities, through enhanced healthcare, education, and overall well-being.

“This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 and underscores Mrs Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of location or circumstance, has access to quality healthcare,” he stated.

Jessica Honya-Tsiewu, the medical officer in charge of the facility, highlighted the previous lack of space and adequate medical equipment, which hindered healthcare delivery.

“This situation compelled us to admit only male patients at times because it was medically inappropriate to house both genders in the same room, especially in a Muslim community that disapproves of such arrangements,” she explained.

Madam Honya-Tsiewu expressed her excitement about the newly commissioned project, calling it a game-changer because it will add separate male and female wards, which is crucial for healthcare delivery in the community.

The Lordina Foundation, in addition to the expansion works at the facility, donated essential medical supplies to the Centre. The items included hospital beds, an electric suction unit, delivery beds, baby cots, baby cribs, boxes of latex gloves, syringes, and a refrigerator.

Established in 2014, the original facility had deteriorated over the past decade. The Lordina Foundation’s renovations mark a significant step toward improving healthcare access in the region.

Lordina Foundation sponsors free health screening for retired pastors

Lordina Foundation Sponsors Free Health Screening For Retired Pastors.

Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama has successfully organised the first free health screening programme for members of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association in Accra.

The programme, financed by the former First Lady through the Lordina Foundation, fulfils a September 14th pledge to organise a quarterly exercise for retired pastors of the church and their wives.

Services provided include laboratory tests for blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, and prostate health. There were also medical consultations with urologists, gynecologists, dietitians, opticians, and general practitioners.

The foundation provided free medications to those who were required to purchase drugs. Rev. Kwame Sarpong Boateng, a board member of the Lordina Foundation, said the initiative aims to alleviate concerns about the medical welfare of retired ministers and their spouses.

He highlighted some of the Foundation’s charitable initiatives, including regular support and donations to orphanages, widows, and the elderly, construction of maternity and children’s wards in three regions, provision of medical supplies to health facilities, assistance to artisans and other impactful social projects.

Rev. Sarpong Boateng commended Mrs Mahama for her thoughtfulness and innovative approach to addressing social challenges.

Dr. Padiki Derban, leader of the medical team, applauded the initiative, noting that some members of the Association may not be able to afford certain medications due to their high prices, making the initiative a timely and beneficial intervention.

Reverend Professor Kwesi Krereko, the immediate past president of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, a beneficiary of the programme, said it provides a vital lifeline for retired ministers and their spouses. He believes that the programme will enhance healthcare for the members and extend their lives after active service in the ministry.

The association’s president, Reverend Dr Harry Insaidoo, was amazed at the thoroughness of the screening, adding that he did not anticipate such a detailed and comprehensive service.

“This kind of screening would cost a fortune if we had sought care at a medical facility. The prices for some of the medications provided for free at this event are very high. Receiving all these treatments and medications at no cost is incredibly heartwarming. It is a delight to see one of our own supporting the retired servants of the gospel,” he stated.

Reverend Dr Insaidoo explained that many members who are on pension struggle to afford their medications because of their high costs, making the Lordina Foundation initiative particularly divine.

Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, who interacted with the medical team and the beneficiaries, expressed her excitement about the turnout and hoped that future events would be even more successful.

Lordina Foundation's Maternity and Children Ward at Bole
Welcomes Its first Triplets in Two Years

The Lordina Foundation’s Maternity and Children Ward at the Bole District Hospital in the Savanna Region celebrated a significant milestone on September 24, 2024, as it welcomed its first triplets delivered via Caesarean section in two years.

This landmark procedure was conducted by Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Jonathan Abesig, who also serves as the Acting Medical Superintendent of the Bole District Hospital. Dr. Abesig and his team of specialists confirmed the triplet pregnancy after several scans.

In an interview with Bole-based Nkilgi FM, Dr. Abesig emphasized that the new maternity complex—constructed by former President H.E. John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama through the Lordina Foundation—has now achieved its first triplet delivery, marking a significant milestone for the facility.

Dr. Abesig noted that the pregnancy was high-risk, but the modern equipment available at the facility enabled a safe delivery for both the mother and the children. He explained the necessity of the Caesarean section, stating, “Triplet births via natural conception occur at an incidence of approximately 1 in 10,000,” highlighting the importance of the procedure.

He further added, “This is important to us because it underscores the need for better diagnostic services for every pregnancy before delivery.”

Dr. Abesig took the opportunity to appeal for support for the family, emphasizing the unique challenges associated with raising triplets in rural communities, despite the joy of welcoming three newborn boys.

It is worth noting that two years ago, the Lordina Foundation commissioned its first fully furnished, state-of-the-art Maternity and Children Ward at the Bole District Hospital to provide quality and safe prenatal care and delivery services for the people of Bole and its surrounding areas.

Earlier this month, the Lordina Foundation also handed over its second Maternity and Children Ward project to the Nkoranza South Polyclinic in the Bono East Region of Ghana, reaffirming its commitment to providing quality and safe healthcare for women and children.

Lordina Mahama launches Association of Retired Pastors of the Assemblies of God Church

Former first lady Lordina Dramani Mahama has announced an initiative, through her Lordina Foundation, to provide quarterly free health screening and medication for retired pastors of the Assemblies of God Church.

Speaking at the launch of the Assemblies of God Church’s retired ministers and spouses association and a health fundraising programme in Accra, Mrs Mahama praised Reverend Gaylord Aidoo Dadzie for conceptualising the idea of the association and seeing it through to fruition.

She emphasised that “the initiative is a powerful testament to our commitment to caring for those who have dedicated their lives to serving God and His people.”

Retirement, she added, can be a time of reflection, rest, and renewal, but also “a time of quietness and loneliness, where the work of active ministry slows down, and the sense of community that once surrounded our retired ministers begins to go down.”

Mrs. Mahama, who was the special guest at the ceremony, outlined the Association’s four key objectives of Representation and Advocacy, Fellowship and Care, Programme Development, and Recognising Experience.

She noted that the work of the association will help ensure that retired ministers and their spouses who have poured out their lives in service are not forgotten, but are embraced, supported, and celebrated.

On behalf of her husband, HE John Dramani Mahama, the former first lady donated to the Association’s Health Fund and promised to organise quarterly screening programmes for the members.

Lordina Mahama hands over Maternity and Children’s Ward to Nkoranza

Lordina Mahama hands over Maternity and Children's Ward to Nkoranza

Former First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, has handed over a newly built, modern, international standard and fully equipped maternity and children’s ward to the Nkoranza Health Center.

The 2000 sqm facility has a surgical theatre, a delivery room, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with incubators and phototherapy machines, medical equipment including an ultrasound machine, patient monitors, autoclaves, vaccine fridges, modern adjustable hospital beds and baby cots, doctors and nurses’ offices and examination rooms.

Mrs Mahama expressed her excitement about the project’s completion and handing over during her address. She noted that the Nkoranza facility is an expanded version of the first facility built in Bole two years ago. This development signifies the Foundation’s commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare in Ghana.

Mrs Mahama lamented that maternal and child health remains a critical issue in Ghana and Africa. She highlighted that each year, approximately 255,000 women die from childbirth complications, with over one million children dying before reaching one month of age. She hoped the new facility would ensure safe deliveries for women and children in Nkoranza and beyond.

She also affirmed that her foundation would continue to support the provision of quality healthcare for women and children, fostering a safe and healthy society for all. The Medical Director of the Nkoranza Health Center, Dr Cornelius Atsu Gligui, believes the new facility will help transition the Center into a polyclinic and its status as a baby-friendly facility. “This is an ultra-modern hospital equipped with state-of-the-art machines and will enable us to deliver quality healthcare to the Nkoranza community,” he stated.

He also expressed profound gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Mahama, the board of the Lordina Foundation, the contractor, and all who contributed to making the “remarkable project” possible. Mrs Helen Agodzo, Deputy Regional Director of Health, emphasized that the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward is the first medical facility the Bono East Region has received since its creation in 2019.

She expressed her gratitude to the Lordina Foundation for this thoughtful initiative. Mrs Agodzo was optimistic that the facility would attract specialist medical professionals to provide top-quality healthcare to the community. The newly constructed facility has a standby generator to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, a basement with offices and meeting rooms, furniture and office fittings for the medical staff, wheelchairs, and bedside lockers.

The foundation also handed over detergents, hand sanitizers, surgical gloves, theatre gowns, and masks. Former President John Dramani Mahama took the opportunity to celebrate his wife’s passion for the welfare of women and children. “It is a blessing to have a wife who is passionate about the welfare of people,” he remarked.

He highlighted the foundation’s achievements in various charity projects, such as implementing maternal and child healthcare projects and initiatives and women’s empowerment.

Mr Mahama acknowledged the unfortunate circumstances many Ghanaians are facing. He reiterated his commitment to providing accessible healthcare at all Ghana CHPS compounds, health centers, and polyclinics under the next NDC government.

Lordina Mahama advocates for peace and unity among Bono people

Former First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama has emphasised the importance of peace and unity among the Bono people. She was speaking at the 2024 Beko Bono festival in Techiman on Saturday.

A native of the Bono East region, Mrs Mahama thanked the traditional leaders and organisers for the invitation and congratulated them for a splendid event.

She celebrated the Bono people’s rich history and entrepreneurial spirit, highlighting their unique humility, acceptance, hard work, and bravery, which made them stand out in our country’s multicultural society.

Mrs Mahama pointed to the region’s immense potential with its many tourist attractions as valuable opportunities that could stimulate development and economic growth across the three Bono regions.

The former first lady referred to the creation of the three new regions out of the former Brong Ahafo Regions and passionately appealed to the people to continue to see themselves as one people and commit to unifying their communities. She noted that development will only come when they remain united and embrace change as a catalyst to advance the region’s growth.

“We must recognise that we are one people, regardless of whether we hail from Bono East, Bono, or Ahafo. It is crucial to remember that we are all Bono people, and there is no distinction between us,” she added.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Nana Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono House of Chiefs, outlined an ambitious plan to raise funds to establish factories in Bono areas to create job opportunities for the youth.

He announced a personal contribution of seven hundred thousand Ghana cedis to the festival organisers on behalf of the Dormaa community to fund a significant project within the Techiman traditional area.

Also present at the festival were the 2024 National Democratic Congress running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Bono East Regional Minister Kwasi Adu-Gyan, current and former ministers of state, Members of Parliament, and Municipal and District Chief Executives

Lordina Mahama Worships with E.P Church Women’s Ministry

Former First Lady Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama on Sunday joined the Women’s Ministry of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church for a thanksgiving service in Ho to commemorate its 40th anniversary.

Mrs Mahama, the Special Guest of Honour, emphasised the integral role women play in society. She spoke about their role in raising children and building good homes, resonating with the anniversary theme, ‘Caring for God’s Creation; The Role of Women’s Ministry’.

She urged women to consider their responsibilities as sacred duties to God and humanity, reinforcing the value and respect they deserve.

She highlighted the remarkable achievements of many Ghanaian women who have, over the years, shattered the glass ceiling and risen to prominence, such as Rt. Hon. Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, the first female Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament. These women, Mrs Mahama noted, serve as a powerful inspiration for young girls and women, demonstrating that with determination and resilience, any goal can be achieved.

She commended her husband, John Dramani Mahama, for his confidence in women and for selecting Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for the second time as his running mate and, hopefully, the first female Vice President of Ghana.

She added that Mr Mahama has demonstrated inclusiveness and trust in women as equally capable candidates for leadership through his actions.

Mrs Mahama, the founder and president of the Lordina Foundation, advocated for equal opportunities for women to reach their full potential, asserting that women are more than capable of excelling at any level of leadership.

She urged women to lead the effort to promote peace and unity before, during and after the December elections. According to her, violence and conflicts must be avoided, as history has shown that women and children are most affected by electoral violence.

The leadership of the Church offered prayers for the Mahama family and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Lordina Mahama supports hairdressers and dressmakers in Nkoranza North.

Former First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama has significantly contributed to the economy’s informal sector by donating equipment to support hairdressers and dressmakers in Busunya, a community in the Nkoranza North constituency in the Bono East region.

The donation, under the auspices of the Lordina Foundation, which included one hundred twenty (120) sewing machines, one hundred (100) hair dryers, and accessories, is aimed at supporting recently graduated apprentices as well as ‘master’ craftswomen who are providing training to young girls in the district.

In her address, Mrs. Mahama emphasized the importance of taking their careers seriously and avoiding procrastination and lack of commitment to meeting customer deadlines. She urged the beneficiaries to uphold quality customer service as the key to maintaining current customers and attracting new ones.

The wife of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer reiterated her husband’s promise of a transformative Free Apprenticeship Program. This visionary initiative is intended to benefit both apprentices and their masters, providing them with the necessary tools and capital to set up their businesses upon completion.

Mrs. Mahama’s emphasis on the program’s potential to ensure a brighter future for these artisans is a beacon of hope for the community. She noted the vital role of artisans in the country’s economy. Her assurance that her husband, if elected, would create the right environment for their businesses to thrive underscores the significance of supporting and growing the economy’s informal sector. This is a crucial step towards ensuring the country’s overall economic development.

She added that supporting artisans and apprentices will help ensure the growth and success of businesses in this sector, contributing to the country’s overall economic development. Mrs. Mahama also presented items to three hundred (300) widows in the constituency.
